The Ancient Mosaics of Paphos: A Walk Through History
The Paphos Mosaics are considered among the finest and most complete Roman mosaics in the eastern Mediterranean. Discovered almost by accident in 1962 by a farmer clearing his land, the mosaics are crafted from small cubes of natural stone, marble, and glass paste (tesserae). Having a rental car lets you arrive first thing in the morning when the gates open at 8:00 AM, allowing you to beat the crowd and enjoy the mosaics in quiet contemplation. You can then easily transition to a scenic drive along the coast to the Tombs of the Kings, located just 5 minutes north.
